Wing Commander Alexander Frank Reuben Bennett was born in 1913 to Albert Thomas and Kate Vincent. By the time WWII arrive Bennett was working as a test pilot for the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough in the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment.
On the 1st July 1942 Wg Cdr Bennett took off from RAF Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire in Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC Z2415 for an experimental weapons test. Returning from successful first half of test there was an explosion under the port wing in the area of trial equipment. A fire broke out and shortly thereafter the wing detached and the aircraft crashed. Wg Cdr Bennet was killed instantly.
